Nausea can take up a great deal of attention

Nausea is a real physical sensation with many possible causes. It may come and go or be hard to explain. An app cannot determine why you feel sick or predict whether you will vomit.

You may take your temperature repeatedly, review what you ate, monitor your throat or stomach, or search for an explanation. These are understandable attempts to prepare and feel safe. If one check leads to another, the search for certainty may take up more of your day.

Condri supports the anxiety surrounding symptoms and an agreed medical plan. Psychological support and physical healthcare can both be appropriate.

When to get medical help

The NHS advises seeing a GP if nausea does not improve in a few days or often comes back. Call NHS 111 if you need advice and cannot see a GP. Seek advice sooner if you are concerned, your intake is restricted or you have other symptoms requiring assessment.

Call 999 if you suddenly feel sick and have tight or heavy chest pain, pain spreading to your arms, back, neck or jaw, or shortness of breath. If you are vomiting and keep being sick without being able to keep fluids down, get urgent advice from NHS 111. NHS guidance says to call 999 or go to A&E if you vomit blood or material resembling ground coffee, have green vomit as an adult, or have a sudden severe headache or severe stomach pain. Do not drive yourself to A&E; ask someone to take you or call 999 for an ambulance. Nausea and vomiting are different experiences, and this general guidance cannot assess an individual symptom. Follow any personal medical advice you have received. In England, NHS 111 can direct you to urgent care; follow your local NHS guidance elsewhere in the UK. Here to help

Support when feeling sick creates a rush of fear

Condri offers tools for noticing a frightening interpretation and the urge to investigate. A pause can help you make room for distress before deciding what to do. It is not a test of whether nausea is medically safe.

Panic button

A guided pause during a surge of fear. Notice the sensation, the thought about it and the urge to react, then follow your medical plan or seek advice if needed. This tool does not provide emergency care.

Daily Condri practice

Short exercises for recognising repeated monitoring, searching, avoidance and reassurance seeking, while practising a more compassionate response to uncertainty.

Members community

A space for support around health anxiety. Members should not be asked to diagnose nausea or compare symptoms and meals; medical decisions belong with qualified healthcare professionals.

Interrupt the spiral

From feeling sick to choosing what happens next

Use it in the moment

Use this pause for a familiar, repetitive anxiety-driven urge after considering whether medical advice is needed. Do not use it to delay urgent care or monitoring recommended by a clinician.

  1. Notice what brought the fear forward

A wave of nausea, a meal, a journey or news that someone is unwell may be a trigger. You could say, “I feel sick, and I notice an urge to work out what will happen next.”

  2. Separate the sensation from the prediction

You can experience genuine nausea and also notice the thought, “I will vomit” or “I will not cope.” Naming a prediction does not establish the cause of nausea or what will happen.

  3. Choose one considered next step

Follow your healthcare plan or seek medical advice when appropriate. If pregnancy is possible, use NHS guidance on when to take a test or ask a healthcare professional. If you have already taken an appropriate step and nothing relevant has changed, practise pausing before repeating the same check or search solely to relieve anxiety.

  4. Return to what matters now

Choose a manageable next action: rest, take fluids or food as advised, speak with someone you trust or return to an activity. The nausea or uncertainty may still be present; you do not need to keep measuring it before giving attention to another part of life.

Built with understanding

Care for yourself without organising life around nausea

Nausea should not automatically be dismissed as anxiety. At the same time, health anxiety can add repeated monitoring, reassurance seeking and avoidance to an already unpleasant sensation. These are understandable attempts to feel safe, even when they begin to restrict your life.

Condri is a health anxiety self-help app shaped by lived experience. Its tools draw on CBT, exposure and response prevention, acceptance-based practices, mindfulness and compassion-focused ideas. They may help you recognise urges, live with some uncertainty and return attention to relationships and activities that matter.

The aim is greater choice, not a promise that nausea will stop or that you will not vomit. Condri cannot diagnose or treat nausea, assess pregnancy, provide nutritional care or replace medical or psychological assessment. Continue any monitoring, medication or treatment recommended for you.

Good to know

Common questions about nausea and health anxiety

Why does nausea make me fear something serious?

Nausea can be uncertain and unpleasant. Health anxiety may quickly select a frightening explanation and urge you to search for evidence. The strength of fear does not establish the cause. Seek medical advice when needed; Condri can help with the checking and recurring doubt around a medical plan.

Can anxiety cause or worsen nausea?

The NHS lists anxiety among possible reasons for feeling sick. Fear may also draw attention to each sensation. This does not establish the cause of your own nausea. See a GP if it does not improve in a few days, keeps coming back or concerns you.

Why do I keep checking whether I will vomit?

Monitoring your throat, swallowing or staying close to a bathroom may feel like preparation. For some people, repeated checks keep attention fixed on the feared outcome. Condri can help you notice the urge without requiring you to predict what happens next.

How can I stop reviewing everything I ate?

Food information can matter for a practical decision. Repeatedly reviewing ingredients, dates and what others ate may become an attempt to remove every doubt. If you need medical guidance, use an appropriate service; if you have already taken a suitable step, notice the urge to investigate the same meal again.

Why am I avoiding food because I feel sick?

Fear that eating will make nausea worse can lead to increasingly restricted intake. Follow advice from a healthcare professional. Seek support if fear or nausea substantially limits eating, you are losing weight or you struggle to keep fluids down. Condri is not nutritional treatment.

What if I worry that nausea means I am pregnant?

If pregnancy is possible, a test at the appropriate time is a practical step. NHS guidance says most tests are reliable from the first day of a missed period, or at least 21 days after unprotected sex if you do not know when your period is due. Follow the test instructions and seek professional advice about a result or continuing concern. Condri cannot assess pregnancy.

Why do I avoid plans or travelling?

You may fear becoming sick away from home or feeling embarrassed. Avoidance can provide relief while making the next outing feel harder. Follow any medical advice about travel and activity; Condri can help you recognise when additional anxiety is narrowing your choices.

Is health anxiety about nausea the same as emetophobia?

They can overlap. Health anxiety often centres on what a sensation might mean medically. Emetophobia describes a strong fear of vomiting or seeing someone vomit. A qualified professional can assess what support fits your experience. Condri does not diagnose or treat a specific phobia.

Why am I worried after the nausea has passed?

Fear may shift from the present sensation to waiting for its return. You might replay an episode or avoid a food or place. Condri can help you notice that anticipatory checking and make room for other parts of your day, without promising nausea will never return.

Why am I still anxious after medical assessment?

A new doubt may arise about what you told the clinician or whether the symptom has changed. Follow the advice and follow-up plan you were given, and seek further care for a relevant change or when instructed. Condri can help you notice repeated attempts to settle the same question.

Can Condri tell me what is causing my nausea?

No. It cannot assess symptoms, diagnose pregnancy or infection, or decide what treatment you need. See a GP if nausea does not improve in a few days or keeps returning. Use urgent or emergency care for the circumstances described above.

Is Condri a treatment for nausea or vomiting?

No. It is self-help for health anxiety patterns such as monitoring, searching, reassurance seeking and avoidance. It does not treat a physical condition or prevent vomiting, and cannot replace appropriate medical care.

Does the health anxiety quiz diagnose the cause of nausea?

No. The quiz is a self-reflection tool about health anxiety patterns. It cannot diagnose a physical condition or pregnancy, interpret symptoms or decide what care you need.
